If you simply Google iPod or iPad and education you will get an overwhelming number of results and looking for apps in the App Store can be equally overwhelming. Here are some great sites to get started with, most of which focus specifically on the iPad in the classroom:
- Apps for learning from Moms With Apps. Given the focus of the site, it does not consider the practicalities of classroom implementation, but can still point you to some good apps.
- APPitic - a directory of 1,300+ apps for education put together by Apple Distinguished Educators. Searchable by theme, multiple intelligences, and Bloom's Taxonomy.
- Best Kids Apps: Educational category
- EdTechTeacher - "iPad As . . ." Lists apps that let you use the iPad for specific purposes
- Fun Educational Apps
- iEAR - "a community effort to grade 'educational apps'." (This site is not just about iPod/iPad apps.).
- iPad Ideas - recommended apps, lesson ideas and case studies
- iPaddiction - blog by Mr Reisler, middle school math and social studies teacher who has 30 iPads in his classroom.
- iPads in the Classroom from Kathy Schrock
- iPads in Education
- Teachers with Apps - a blog created by two teachers "Our goal is to be a credible resource for quality educational apps."
- Teaching with iPad - a blog from a teacher who has used an iPad daily in his teaching for over a year.
- There May Not Be an App for That - one teacher's experience getting started using iPads in the classroom
- Tony Vincent's Learning in Hand. Tony has many years of experience using handheld computing devices in education and LOTS of useful tips. An excellent starting point.
- Wes Fryer's iOS Apps for Productivity and Fun
- iPad Art Room - from Distinguished Apple Educator Cathy Hunt, who teaches art in a 1:1 iPad classroom for years 6-12 (ages 11-18.) Check out the lesson ideas and you'll see why she's an Apple Distinguished Educator!
- iPads in Art Education -written by 2 art teachers in different US states.
- PE apps - a list of apps that Physical Education teachers might find useful, from Ed-Tech Ideas
- TapTapMath - a blog that focuses solely on apps for math.
- Apps for AAC focuses specifically on iOS apps for augmentative and alternative communication for those with speech and language difficulties.
- Apps for Special Education - a list put together in October 2010.
- iPad - SEN PLC - the iPad resource list for the iPad PLC for Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools in South Wales. There is a strong focus on apps that use touch screen, tilting, camera and mobility, and apps for the most severe needs.
- Speech Techie - written by a guy who's both a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) and Instructional Technology Specialist (ITS)
- Spectronics - a long and detailed list of AAC apps for iOS devices.
- Technology in (Spl) Education has a great list of recommended apps sorted by IEP goal.
